LITTLE RED BOOK Aug 2021 Update - New 'Clubhouse' Like Audio Chat Function
As I was aimlessly wandering around within the Little Red Book app (aka RED), I discovered an interesting new feature - ‘Clubhouse’ like audio chats that I could readily join.
Of course I was curious, so I clicked in to check out the audio chat, only to see that the function is currently in beta testing only. At first glance, it seems like the function is pretty much exactly like Clubhouse. Users can discover this function in their notifications. Screenshots below show you the audio chats are displayed on rotation right under the notification icons.
When you click into one of these audio chat rooms, you will be able to see other attendees at the bottom and the speakers at the top, much like in Clubhouse. You can also click on each of the attendees and/or speakers to see their profile and follow them. This could be a new discovery method for personal accounts by joining these audio chats.
Since RED is a platform for sharing authentic experiences and this is a key brand value that the RED team works hard to ensure (by minimizing promotional content and other product peddling activities), it will be interesting to see if these chats will create a supportive social network in comparison to other Chinese social media platforms where live chats and livestreams focus on a promoter pushing products.
