Instagram Aug 2021 Update - Replacing Swipe-Up Links for Stories with Link Stickers_Cover-08.jpg

Engagement and connection with our viewers are paramount for the growth of our Instagram following and business (because we know our clients check out our Instagram!). When we post Instagram stories with Swipe-Up links, they are taken to a landing page where we could track their interaction with our website using Google Analytics, but we miss the opportunity for them to interact with our stories right on the Instagram platform. The new Link Stickers that will be launched next week will give users another way to interact with your IG stories.

Starting August 30th, Instagram will be replacing the Swipe-Up feature with Link Stickers! Yes! Stickers! I am sure you know how stickers work on Instagram Stories, but let us list some benefits of this new feature to make it clear:

  • More engagement and feedback: Since viewers can react and reply to the stories with link stickers. You will have better knowledge of preferences that your viewers have and be able to pivot your content accordingly. Hence, improving follower growth and engagement.

  • More creative control:  Link Stickers look and function exactly the same as other tags (i.e. Mention, Hashtag, Location...etc.) You could customize them to different styles and sizes to place them anywhere on your story.

  • More expressive: Link Stickers can complement the other stickers and emojis you use in your IG Story. Tapping on the Link Stickers can change the font colour and you can resize them like other stickers. You could use arrows, pens and emojis to draw more attention to your Link Sticker, which will likely translate into more users clicking on it.

Although this Link Sticker update will be launched on August 30th, only verified accounts and accounts which have a minimum of 10K users will have access to the new feature. However, Instagram Head of Product Vishal Shah announced that they are working towards making this feature available to all users, they just have to ensure this Link Sticker would not become a platform for spamming and spreading misinformation.

You should start thinking about how you can incorporate this new feature into your content to get more interactions from your users.
