AI for Designers: How to Use Photoshop's Generative AI Tool for Your Marketing Efforts

Adobe, the leading software company renowned for its photo-editing software Photoshop, has embraced the growing trend of generative AI by announcing the addition of a new feature called Generative Fill. Generative Fill promises to revolutionize the way users work with images, providing them with a magical new tool to enhance and manipulate visual content. This move by Adobe reflects the increasing significance of generative AI in the tech industry and its potential to transform creative processes and workflows.

This AI tool is currently only available in the Beta version of Photoshop, but we are seeing some promises of it being launched soon to the public.

The Power of Generative Fill | Change Creatives However You Want

Generative Fill allows users to add, remove, and extend visual content in their images based on natural-language text prompts. By harnessing the speed and ease of generative AI, coupled with the precision of Photoshop, Generative Fill empowers users to bring their creative visions to life with unprecedented efficiency. Ashley Still, Adobe's senior VP of Digital Media, expressed enthusiasm about the feature, stating that it enables users to transform their ideas into reality at the speed of their imaginations.

Here we are showing how we were able to use the Generative Filltool to extend the sunset and ocean for this photo.

Enhancing Images with Ease | Add Small Details Without Compromising the Creative

With Generative Fill, users can inpaint specific sections of an image or extend content beyond the image's borders. For instance, users can create a surreal sky with vibrant colours or seamlessly expand the aspect ratio of an existing photo. Adobe ensures that the feature maintains the original scene's perspective, lighting, and style, resulting in visually appealing and cohesive edits.

Here is the final photo using the generative AI tool to extend the photo. We also added the two rowboats and people in the rowboats to the photo. You can’t even tell that they were not part of the original image!

Here is the original image to compare.

Availability and Future Prospects | Stay Tuned for the Launch

Generative Fill is now available in the Photoshop desktop beta version, offering users an early glimpse of its capabilities. Adobe plans to make the feature generally available in the second half of 2023. Furthermore, Generative Fill is also accessible on the web as part of the Firefly beta module, expanding its reach to a wider audience.

The generative AI tool can seamlessly integrate content without being pixelated or out of place.

Our team at Catalyst Agents has been experimenting with this tool and it is amazing how this AI tool can seamlessly extend a piece of creative that we input. Even when we inputted a prompt to include a rowboat with two people in it, the generated additions do not look pixelated or like a blob on the image.

From our experiments, we are already seeing a variety of use cases for this beta function. For example, when clients send us images but are asking us to crop them a certain way, we can use this generative AI tool to extend the photo so that we can properly crop it. We can also use this tool to generate mockups for clients by adding specific elements on a creative seamlessly. We no longer need to spend hours finding stock photos that fit our description when we can input what we want into an AI tool like this.

Adobe's integration of generative AI editing capabilities into Photoshop marks a significant development in the world of creative software. The introduction of Generative Fill provides users with an innovative tool that combines the power of generative AI with the precision of Photoshop. As generative AI continues to shape the creative landscape, Adobe's commitment to transparency and ethical use sets a positive precedent. With Generative Fill, users can unlock new possibilities for image editing and manipulation, pushing the boundaries of their creativity.
