4 Considerations to Build a Better Little Red Book Content Strategy & How to Apply Them to 3 Content Categories

Welcome back to our Little Red Book blog post series! In our previous blog posts, we shared our insider tips on how to create intriguing cover photos and headlines for your content. Have you started applying our tips to your Little Red Book content strategy yet?? If you have, you should be seeing prominent results.

In this blog post, we will cover 4 tips to build an authentic content strategy, and how to apply them in different content categories.

Even if your cover photo and headline attract users to click if your content does not provide enough value or align with your headline and cover photo or show authenticity, be prepared for negative comments from your followers or risk your account getting flagged as spam. Don’t clickbait your viewers. We have already mentioned many times that practicality and authenticity are paramount for great performance on Little Red Book.

The philosophy behind content creation is to think less about yourself and the outcome (Performance) and prioritize adding value to your viewers through your content. Are you solving their problems? Are you making them joyful? Are you elevating them to become better people?

There are 4 considerations to build a better Little Red Book content strategy:

  1. Hone in on your niche

  • What fields are you genuinely interested in and knowledgeable about? Fashion/Foodie/Fitness/Nutrition/Personal growth? You have to be very passionate in your field because this is the only way you would be motivated to learn more about the field, create innovative content, and connect with your audience.

    2. Identify your target audiences

Who will find your content valuable? In other words, what’s your target profile or persona? Is it 24-year-old Emily who’s a university graduate in their first entry-level job? Figure out who’s watching! Only then can you create content that speaks to them.

3. Short videos or Static photos?

  • High-performing content should not be limited by content format. A static photo providing a detailed user experience can perform significantly better than a short video. It depends on which is the optimal way for you to express your thoughts to your viewers. You can always test it out by creating content in different forms to see which format you are most comfortable creating and yields the best performance.

4. Personal Branding

  • What kind of image do you want to portray? Even within a specific field like fashion, there are many different personalities. You could be a fashion critic vlogger who sits in the front row at runway shows, or a street fashion vlogger who captures street style from fashion show attendees, OR, you could be someone who shares their daily outfits right from your own home. Your content directly establishes your image. You have to differentiate yourself from other content creators. We will circle back to this in our future RED blog posts.

Now that you know the 4 things to consider when building your persona and content strategy on Little Red Book, why don’t we jump to our analysis of different kinds of amazing content we have seen on Little Red Book and discuss how you can apply and integrate the best bits into your content creation?

  1. Educational Content

Do not underestimate this carousel post. Although it consists of 8 static photos, we can see a lot of time and effort spent here. It is a fundamental photography guide that compiles important information in an organized manner. It is extremely beneficial to photography beginners because they can easily reference this post whenever they need to check their camera settings. The creator also used callouts on the photos to help their followers identify the settings.

Next, let’s take a look at this short video that shares tips to help find your content angle and be natural in front of the camera. There are 2 reasons why this piece of content outperformed others. First, a famous news reporter created this video, so his expert status was the first thing that captured the audience. Secondly, he addressed the anxiety and fear that many people have when they have to be on camera. Viewers found the reporter’s tips useful, such as his usual ways to get himself hyped before going live, how he positions his chin to keep the audience engaged, and where he looks at the camera. As a result, this piece of content where an expert shares practical advice outperformed other competing posts because he spoke his viewer’s language and shared tips they could easily implement.

These valuable tips solved the pain points of viewers who lack presentation experience and knowledge. When viewers find the content useful, they would most likely like the video, share it with their families and friends, collect it and even follow the content creator for more valuable content! Therefore, providing value consistently is always the way to go!

Fashion styling is one of the most popular content categories on Little Red Book. If you are a fashion lover, why not share some of your outfits as fashion inspiration for your followers? This short outfit colour matching video guide is incredible because it demonstrates different combinations of colours and provides incredible value in under 15 seconds; that’s why it has such a high engagement rate and traffic!

2. Product Review

Little Red Book successfully garnered a large userbase of females who enjoy watching content about luxury, fashion mix & match, shopping, skincare, travelling and even maternity.

Most of them are savvy users who research and review their products extensively on Little Red Book as it is a trusted source of advice and recommendations. Also, it has a much higher conversion rate than other e-commerce platforms. Therefore, if you stumble upon a product that you think others would find amazing, don’t wait! Start creating the content right now.

Take a look at this toner rating chart! The pricing, packaging style, effects and rating of every toner are neatly listed out. Under her product review notes, this beauty vlogger described the pros and cons of each toner, so viewers can evaluate which one is the best for their skin type before making purchasing decision.

However, if you tried a popular product or service and you did not find it useful, you should give an honest review and let your viewers know your opinion, because it could help your viewers avoid a consumer trap. For example, in the short video below, this vlogger talked about the merits of the Dior Diana Bag but also clearly explained why she thought it was not worthy of purchasing. A lot of viewers agreed with the vlogger’s viewpoints in the comments section. Honest reviews help viewers prevent unnecessary purchases, which saves them a lot of time and money.

3. Foodie Content (Recipe/Restaurant reviews)

Who can say no to delicious food and recipes? Especially the ones that viewers can easily make at home? Check out this fried sparerib recipe. The spareribs are fried until golden brown, and you can see from the video how crispy they are.
